Upload your master file as is

VodSpot accepts the file created by your editor or camera, generates a preview version playable on any phone, laptop, or TV, and preserves the original intact for download. No re-exporting for the web or extra uploads required.

How it works

  1. You upload a single file

A master file from your timeline or a camera clip.

  2. The client views a preview

We use adaptive H.264 streaming (ranging from 480p to 4K) with standard color rendering that displays correctly on any screen.

  3. The client downloads the original

It is the exact file you uploaded — byte for byte — retaining the same codec, bit depth, and color.

Not accepted

What we do not accept and why

In each of these cases, VodSpot flags the issue and suggests the correct course of action rather than publishing an incorrect image.

  • Video with a resolution higher than 4K (5.9K, 6K, 8K). Previews are limited to 4K, so larger frames only increase processing time without offering any benefits visible to the client. If you attempt to upload an MP4 or MOV file exceeding this resolution, VodSpot will notify you before the upload begins. Please export the file in 4K and upload that version instead.
  • Camera RAW formats (Blackmagic RAW, ProRes RAW, REDCODE, CinemaDNG). RAW files require the camera manufacturer’s own software and a custom color grade (look) applied by you. Please export to ProRes, DNxHR, H.264, or H.265.
  • Dolby Vision profile 5. This profile has no standard base layer under the Dolby Vision metadata, making correct conversion impossible. Please export in HDR10, HLG, or SDR format.
  • HDR video longer than 30 minutes. Please split the video into parts or export it in SDR.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I upload ProRes or DNxHR instead of exporting to MP4?

Yes. Upload the master file: VodSpot will generate a web-friendly preview version from it while preserving the master file itself for download.

Does VodSpot alter my source file?

No. The original is stored exactly as uploaded and can be downloaded without any changes.

My Log-format footage looks flat in the preview. Is this a problem?

No. Log footage is displayed as shot. If you need to show the client a color-graded version, upload the graded file; the original Log file can be shared separately.

How does HDR video from an iPhone look?

For the preview, the video is converted to standard colors using GPU processing, so it looks natural on non-HDR screens. The original file retains all HDR and Dolby Vision data.

Why was my video rejected?

The reason is shown on the Videos tab of the project: the frame resolution exceeds 4K, the file is in a camera RAW format, the HDR video is longer than 30 minutes or uses Dolby Vision profile 5, or the file could not be recognized as a video.

Are there bitrate limits?

No. A 4K ProRes master file with a bitrate of 800 Mbps is processed in the same way as a file with a bitrate of 40 Mbps.
