Who I Am
For years, I've been shooting video and doing photography – weddings, events, commercials, and interviews. Like any professional, I follow a usual workflow – contract, invoice, meeting, shoot, and editing. But the project does not end when I export the video. It ends when the client opens the link – and this is the very last step where all the positive impressions from your good job go out of the window.
Why I Created VodSpot
For years, I was sending the finished video like everyone else – via cloud storage, archives, file exchange systems. The client would get a ZIP-archive that he would have to download, unzip, and somehow play on his phone. This link would expire after a week, and it wouldn't bear my name and logo. When the client was sending a video to his colleague or a guest, no one would know who had shot the video.
The standard solutions from public video hosting platforms do not solve the full range of quality delivery tasks. They differ in technology, compress the source file, have advertising, a recommendation system, and a lot of garbage that the client will not need. Professional hosting solutions charge you for bandwidth or have a traffic limitation that is enough for only a couple of 4K videos. Thus, I could not reduce the source file’s bitrate to fit in the allocated budget.
That’s why I created VodSpot—a service I wanted to use myself:
- Videos play in the browser in 4K—ad-free, without third-party branding, and without a recommendation feed.
- Clients download the original file—byte for byte—rather than a compressed copy.
- The delivery page is customized for your studio: your logo, colors, and your own domain.
- Each recipient gets a unique link with its own password, expiration date, and viewing/download statistics.
- Embedding is restricted to the specific domains you authorize.
- You can add subtitles and view analytics for every video.
- There are no data transfer fees.
What I Write About on the Blog
On the VodSpot blog, I write about the problems I have as a professional in my field: how to deliver a video to a client, protect a file with a password, protect a link from being copied, or delete advertising and video hosting. I’m also writing about the difference between private and public video hosting, and how to create a standard project delivery workflow. I write about using video in education, non-profit organizations, musicians, publishers, film schools, and festivals. My blog is filled with useful insights, and I strive to write only about those things that I or my clients can apply in real projects.
My Other Projects
Vodspot is part of the Yuriray Group, a set of independent applications for video and photo producers. I also created the OurStoria product for wedding videographers and photographers, which allows you to immediately provide a couple with a film or photo album at their project page, with guest viewing and project publication.
